Sustainable Building Challenge 2011

TSSBE (Taiwan Society of Sustainable Built Environment) was founded on 2 June, 2007. Its objectives are to promote international communication of academic and practical activities related to sustainable building and symbiotic environment, and to assist related industries stepping forward to international community. Mrs. Judy, Huang Chin-ying is the current initiative president.
In order to promote the development of sustainable environment and the construction with innovation perspectives, the vision of TSSBE is to change and establish the sustainable environment in Taiwan, including the urban and rural regions. This vision also responds to human living and life.
We followed the formula “GB + Symbiosis = SB”, the collective solution to the sustainable future which President Judy, Huang Chin-ying presented at SB2002 on behalf of Archilife Research Foundation. The ultimate goal of TSSBE is to promote and establish the real symbiotic and sustainable living environment for building a beautiful future.

SBChallenge is a process focused on the selection and showcase of innovative sustainable building design concepts and techniques. Organized by iiSBE, it has been a significant part of the World Sustainable Building Conference series since its beginning, in 1998. This year’s process has collected 47 projects from 13 countries, presented in this website and in the national team booths.

What is iiSBE?

The International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment is a non-profit organization with over 500 members worldwide, working to actively facilitate and promote the adoption of policies, methods and tools to accelerate the movement towards a global sustainable built environment.

SB11 Helsinki

The 2011 edition of SBChallenge is part of SB11 Helsinki, the global Sustainable Building conference organized by RIL and VTT in cooperation with CIB, iiSBE and UNEP-SBCI, taking place on 18-21 October 2011.

During the Conference

During the entire SB11 conference, the SBChallenge projects will be visible in a continuous video loop next to room 102 or in the national team booths, as specified in the project list.

On the 20th October, room 102 will host the three SBChallenge panels:

  • Education (11:00-12:30)
  • Offices & Research centres (14:00-15:30)
  • Public: accommodation, commercial, social utility (16:00-17:30)


After the conference, the videos, KPI and papers will be available on the SBChallenge11 website, a subsection of, the official website for the International Initative for a Sustainable Built Environment.
